Seaton Hole carries a lot of nostalgia for me. I grew up around here, and over the last 6 or 7 years I have regularly returned to these rocks. They look their best in the early morning, when it's often just me, the indomitable sitter and the soothing sound of the sea against the pebbles.
The painting is completed in 3 hours or so, after which time the light has altered things too much to continue. The hues and tones are subtle variations and the range, narrow. It is satisfying when it works, other times, I am taught valuable lessons. This would not work from a photo, some things just cannot be seen from a photo.
