- Oil On Board.
This piece was inspired by several visits to the idyllic village and parish of Stoke Gabriel where I painted en plein air to be used as references.
The woodland perches precariously at the edge of red rock formations that are typical of this part of Devon. I was attracted to the twisted bark and overall character of these trees, set against the creek of the river Dart. The final hours of the day produced subtle blues and pinks and enriched the redness of the rocks and soil.
